How a November morning runs

November is the month the fall's math starts to slip. The facts a class had cold in October go soft over a week of short days, a field trip and Thanksgiving, and December opens with review nobody planned. Morning work is the cheapest fix there is: a few minutes every day on the skills already taught, before anything new.

Each packet is twenty pages, one per school day, each page two or three short blocks of familiar math. Day 1 might be division facts and three digit addition; Day 2 rounding and multiplication. The skills come back on a schedule, so nothing goes three weeks without practice.

What is in every packet

  • A note for the teacher and families, one page, with how the routine works.
  • What we practice in November: every skill in plain words, with its standard.
  • A twenty-day tracker students check off themselves, with the skills each day covers.
  • Twenty day pages, each with a short daily check-in at the bottom.
  • Answer keys numbered to every page, and a certificate for the finished month.

Kindergarten November math morning work

Kindergarten morning work has to be read aloud, so every question is written that way: the adult reads, the child answers. The Kindergarten packet (29 pages, 125 problems, $5.95) practices counting, comparing, numbers to 10 and flat shapes.

1st grade November math morning work

The 1st grade packet (30 pages, 256 problems, $5.95) keeps facts within 20, tens and ones and counting on moving, two skills a page.

2nd grade November math morning work

The 2nd grade packet (30 pages, 246 problems, $5.95) practices two digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping, story problems, and measuring in inches.

3rd grade November math morning work

The 3rd grade packet (30 pages, 286 problems, $5.95) spirals multiplication and division facts, three digit addition and subtraction, and rounding. The sample pages above come from this packet.

4th grade November math morning work

The 4th grade packet (30 pages, 152 problems, $5.95) works place value, multi digit addition and subtraction, and two digit by one digit multiplication.

5th grade November math morning work

The 5th grade packet (29 pages, 177 problems, $5.95) covers place value, decimals, multi digit multiplication and division with two digit divisors.

The K-5 bundle

The November Math Morning Work bundle holds all six packets, 178 pages, for $24.95 against $35.70 bought separately. It is the one to share with a grade-level team or a school that runs the same morning routine in every room.

December's packets are on the December math morning work page. For the students who finish first in November, there are November early finisher packets for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a page of November math morning work take?

Fifteen minutes or less. Each cover prints the time its own pages measure: about ten minutes read aloud in Kindergarten, ten to fifteen in 1st grade, and six to fourteen in 2nd through 5th, depending on the day. That is the length of a morning warm up, with time left to check it together.

Why twenty days when November is shorter than that?

November has about 17 to 19 school days around Thanksgiving, so twenty pages cover the whole month with a page or two to spare for the first days of December. The tracker carries day numbers, not dates, so a snow day or the short Thanksgiving week never leaves a page behind.

Is it new teaching or review?

Review, plus the skills most classes reach in November. Every page spirals the grade’s September to November skills, two or three to a page, so students can start it on their own while you take attendance. If a block has not come up in your class yet, skip it and come back; the teacher note says so too.

Can Kindergarten do morning work alone?

Not yet, and the packet does not pretend otherwise. The Kindergarten pages are teacher-led: every question is written to be read aloud, the adult reads, the child answers. From 1st grade up the directions are short enough for students to start alone.

Does it come with answer keys?

Yes. The keys are at the back of every packet, numbered to the page they belong to, so checking a morning takes a minute. Each packet is one printable PDF with white pages that print cleanly on the school copier.
