How the test prep works

Test prep usually arrives as a thick practice book in the last week, and it reviews whatever unit came last. The test does not work that way. It asks for the whole year: facts from September, fractions from February, and the word problems that mix them.

These packets spread that year across twenty school days. One page a day, ten to fifteen minutes, two or three skills on each page, and a different pairing every day, so by test day every skill has come around more than once. There is one packet per grade, 2nd through 5th grade.

How the twenty days run

  • Before Day 1: the Before Test Day page, six test-taking habits worth five minutes of class time.
  • Days 1 to 10: one numbered page a day, checked off on the My 20 Days tracker with a score or a note.
  • After Day 10: a Halfway Checkpoint, a short self-assessment that shows students which skills still need a look.
  • Days 11 to 20: the second half of the rotation, then an optional Challenge Day for the student who wants one more.
  • Checking: answer keys numbered to match every page, so checking a day takes a minute.

What each grade reviews

  • 2nd Grade Math Test Prep (33 pages, $6.95): Twenty days of 2nd grade review: addition, subtraction, money, measurement, skip counting, two-step word problems.
  • 3rd Grade Math Test Prep (33 pages, $6.95): Twenty days of 3rd grade review: facts, place value, fractions, geometry, and word problems, 278 problems in all.
  • 4th Grade Math Test Prep (33 pages, $6.95): Twenty days of 4th grade review: multi-digit multiplication and division, place value, fractions, geometry.
  • 5th Grade Math Test Prep (33 pages, $6.95): Twenty days of 5th grade review: long division, fractions with unlike denominators, place value, geometry.

The 2nd through 5th grade bundle carries all four grades for $19.95, against $27.80 bought separately. It suits a resource room, an intervention group that spans grades, or a family with children in more than one grade who want to run one routine.

After the test

The same packets work as a spring review for grades without a state test, and as a check before summer. When the year closes, the summer review packets carry each grade into the next one, and for a whole year planned in one purchase, the test prep is also part of the 2nd through 5th grade whole year math bundles.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start the 20 days of test prep?

Twenty school days before the test, which is about four weeks. One page a day takes ten to fifteen minutes, so it fits as morning work or the first part of the math block without replacing the lesson.

Does it cover the whole year or only the spring units?

The whole year. Each packet cycles every skill the grade covers, fall and spring both, two or three skills to a page, and no pairing repeats two days running. A skill that went soft in October comes back around before test day.

Is there anything to teach?

No. Every skill has already been taught in class. The packet is review, with a What This Packet Reviews guide that names each skill and its standard, and answer keys numbered to match every page.

What else is in the packet besides the twenty pages?

A My 20 Days tracker, a Before Test Day page with six test-taking habits, a Halfway Checkpoint after Day 10 (a short self-assessment, not a grade), an optional Challenge Day, the answer keys, and a certificate for the end.
